Standard Installation Grout Installation Diagonal Installation

After your tile floor has cured, per manufacturer’s recommendations, gather your grouting supplies. For preparation and other tips for a standard tile installation, go here.

Step
Mix your grout.
Mix your grout following the manufacturer’s recommendation. .

Helpful hints – for most jobs (with joints less than 1/16 th of an inch), unsanded grout mixed with latex additive for strength is appropriate. Installations with joints wider than 1/16 th of an inch required sanded grout.

Step

Spread grout in sections.

Spread grout diagonally across floor with a padded float, pushing into the deep joints between the tiles. Work small areas at a time. Once the joints are fully packed, scrap any excess off with the float. Hold the float at a sharp angle to avoid digging out any grout from the joints.

           Spread grout with diagonal movement

Step Clean entire floor with sponge.
Clean tiles thoroughly with sponge, changing water frequently. Use a circular motion, rising the sponge frequently as you go.

Step

Repeat this process until the entire floor is complete.

Step After grout has begun to set, polish tiles with cloth to remove haze carefully as not to disturb the setting grout in the joints.

After your grout has had a few days to finish hardening, seal all the joints with a caulk of your choice. You may also wish, at this time, to seal the tile and the joints.

Your installation is now complete!
