The New Trend in Flooring: Rectified Tile Installed with Minimal Grout Lines & the Tile Tools That Make it EASIER
 posted on 12/13/2011 by TileRIGHT

A rectified tile is defined as a tile that has gone through an additional step in the manufacturing process to ensure uniformity in size. (It has been cut after being fired at a very high temperature)  A non-rectified tile does not undergo this process and slight variations in tile sizes may exist because each tile will shrink during the firing process as moisture escapes.

Now what does this mean to you?

There is a new trend gaining popularity where rectified tile is being installed edge to edge with very minimal grout lines.  The look tends to make your space feel larger because there are no lines drawing the eye to each individual tile.

As long as you have the Right Tools and conditions you can Do-It-Yourself.

1. Most important is having a level floor.

Each tile has to lay flat in order for this installation to work and achieve the aesthetic look you want.

2. Tavy 2-Sided Tile Spacers in 1/32” (Yellow).  These

are the smallest you can find anywhere and will help

keep your tiles evenly spaced.  If you

want also have the 1/16” spacers (Green) for a slightly

          larger grout joint.

3. The MeasureRIGHT Pro tile measuring gauge to install

precisely cut tiles. Working with such a small grout

joint means that there is little room for error when it

comes to your perimeter tile cuts.  Make sure your cuts

                  are precise the first time.

4.  The Tavy-Tile Puck is a lippage detector.  Run this

level over your adjoining tiles to detect if one tile is

not level with the others.  You don’t want to stub your

toe later on down the line to determine if one tile is not in

        line with the rest.

Let TiLeRIGHT provide you with flooring tools to help you achieve your installation whether you’re a novice or a professional.  We provide Free Shipping and in most cases will ship out your order the same day.

A Tile Tool That Saves You From Having to Remove Base Moulding
 posted on 11/23/2011 by TileRIGHT

Do you really need to remove the base moulding when installing tile? You do not under the right circumstances and with the MeasureRIGHT Pro Tile Flooring Tool.  Professionally (and in new construction) it is customary to remove the base trim before a flooring installation.  Not all installations require you to remove the base trim, which can be added costs and time to your remodel job.  The MeasureRIGHT Pro tile measuring gauge is an exclusively patented tool that makes tile installation fast and easy.  Make precise tile cuts the first time so you can install tile directly up to the base molding, no need to hide inaccurate cuts under the base.  Take the time and watch the videos to see exactly how the tools can work for you.    http://www.tileright.com/videos.asp

Choosing Your Grout Joint Sizes on Your DIY Tile Installation
 posted on 11/17/2011 by TileRIGHT

One important thing to consider when choosing your tile design is your grout joint sizes.  Obviously high traffic areas could benefit from grout joints that are smaller to virtually nonexistent; Tavy Two-Sided tile spacer in 1/32 inch (yellow spacers) are the smallest tile spacer you can buy and are typically used on natural stone, granite, and marble.

There are certain tiles and/or homeowners preference where you will have a grout joint that is larger. These grout joints commonly range from 1/8 of an inch to 3/8 of an inch and are accommodated by Tavy’s Line of 2 Sided Tile Spacers. Larger grout joints over time will become a shade darker because dirt and grime collect in the surface of the joint.  It is to your advantage, especially with kids and pets, to seal the grout joints if you are installing or having tile installed by a professional.  Grout sealers these days come in a variety of colors that can match virtually any grout color you choose. Sealing grout joints is an easy task that any homeowner could perform with a little bit of instruction.

Remember that the larger the grout joint size the more dirt and grime that are deposited on the joints; so make sure you seal those joints to help keep the color vibrant and not dingy.

Benefits of Installling Tile on a Diagonal (Diamond Tile Pattern)
 posted on 11/08/2011 by TileRIGHT

Choosing a tile pattern can be a daunting task.  You have to take into consideration that the more complex designs take longer to install and may increase your budget due to added materials needed.  The MeasureRIGHT Pro solves these issues by allowing you to accuratly measure and mark the sometimes complicated tile cuts you may encounter on your installation.

The purpose of a diagonal tile pattern is to draw your eye outwards to the points, making the space seem larger.  This could be useful in a smaller space and the benefits of the design are worth the additional effort.  In order to keep the room visually appealing and not to draw all your attention to the floors you should stick to neutral colors that are subtle but still interesting.  Remember that tile is permanent and replacement is costly; so choose your tile and pattern accordingly, it will save you misery in the long run.

Now if you still are having trouble on choosing a design pattern for your tile installation then look for a little free help from a professional.  Most of your local tile stores have a design desk or person on staff whose expertise is in tile design.  Seek out their advice on how you should proceed and what patterns would look best in the space you have.

I would like to share with you a customer response after using the MeasureRIGHT Pro tool to complete her tiling job!  Thank you Cheri M.

Yes, ladies CAN tile with this tool and I love it!  A friend and I tiled my kitchen, pantry, laundry room and bathroom, all on the diagonal with 18 tiles, and it all looks great!  The tool was so easy to use and there was absolutely NO waste.  I have attached some photos of the job before it was completely finished.  I highly recommend the TileRight Tool for anyone to use, DIYer or professional.

An Easy Step For Cutting Tile Once: Measure it Right the First Time
 posted on 10/28/2011 by TileRIGHT

So you have arrived at the point of your installation where you need to make tile cuts.   Most likely you have reached the perimeter of your work area.  This is the time that you do not want to make mistakes.  Make sure to take your time when cutting tile and double check measurements at each step.  Once a tile has been cut, there is no piecing it back together, so be sure it''s cut properly the first time.

There is a tool out there that can help you mark a tile to be cut so you only have to cut one time.  The MeasureRIGHT Pro is a template that you can set and then use to mark all your perimeter tiles to be cut.  Make one trip to the wet saw or tile cutter…just remember to label the order of your cuts so you can replace the tiles in the same order.  You can purchase the tool directly from the inventor at www.tileright.com and watch the videos showing how easy it is to use the MeasureRIGHT Pro.  Call (865)277-7528 and ask for Bret, our resident tile and marble installation specialist.

Installing ceramic tile, tips and tricks
 posted on 10/20/2011 by TileRIGHT

Installing ceramic tile is easy with modern fast-setting mastics, sealants, and grout. Whatever style or size you choose to install, the principles are the same.

Before you begin, you''ll need a hammer, chalk line, level, saber saw with carbide blade (helpful but not necessary), rubber gloves, tile mastic, tile grout sealer, tiles, edging cap and two outside corner edge caps for ceramic tile, and a paint stirring stick or old toothbrush to use for forcing grout deeply into the tile joints. You can also rent or buy a grooved trowel, tile nippers, tile cutter, and rubber squeegee.
